Community and Herbal Medicine
A Not-for-profit Enterprise reconnecting plants and people to promote healing
Consultations are an important part of the healing process: they provide a supportive and empowering relationship within which a person is able to find their way to healing.
Sitting with somebody enables the herbalist to fully understand the person who has come to see them. It involves listening to the story that someone has come with: the information about their condition or symptoms; their worries and cares; their lifestyle and work life; their aspirations and inspiration.
A herbal prescription is designed to work with all these aspects of a person, to help them come back into balance with themselves, and so back to health. Each prescription that we prepare is therefore unique to that individual, and designed to gently and subtly reverse the course of dis-ease that has developed. Because the plants work at deep levels, healing the source of disturbance in the body or psyche, preparations usually need to be taken two or three times daily, over the course of several weeks or months.
Regular follow-up meetings are always scheduled; they are important oportunities to discuss, manage and fine-tune treatment as healing progresses. They are also opportunities for us to teach techniques for self-care, and to empower clients with the knowledge and tools to manage their ongoing health and healing.
From early Summer we will be running monthly drop-in clinics at various sites in and around Cambridge.
Run from our Mobile Dispensary, these will offer a convenient and relaxed way of accessing an appointment and an affordable means of getting a prescription. They are an opportunity to ask for one-off advice or receive ongoing support, gather information on alternative or complementary herbal options, or just come aboard for a cup of tea!
If your organisation or community group feels it could benefit from a regular drop-in session, please get in touch. As long as there is space to park the Dispensary we'll be happy to add you to our schedule.
Alongside the work of Of People and Plants, we also see clients privately. While our acute festival and community drop in sessions are highly valuable there are occasions where clients need a different approach. This is where private consultations can be of more use.
First consultations are pretty thorough, in order to gather as much relevant background as possible and form a clear picture of your complaint. After the initial meeting, regular follow-ups are always scheduled; they are important oportunities to discuss, manage and fine-tune treatment as healing progresses. They are also opportunities for us to teach techniques for self-care, and to empower clients with the knowledge and tools to manage their ongoing health and healing.
